Mumbai, Jan 27 : Avant-garde Bengali filmmakers seem to be lining up at Bollywoods doorstep with promises of tempting new cinema - and one such film has Deepti Naval pairing with Nana Patekar and Rekha. Even as Rituparno Ghosh released his Ajay Devgan-Aishwarya Rai romance "Raincoat", he quietly finished shooting "Antar Mahal", which is in Bengali but has Abhishek Bachchan and Soha Ali Khan to give it a Bollywood ambience. It released last year.

Mumbai, Feb 3 : Hema Malini, who directed Shah Rukh Khan in his first film "Dil Ashna Hai", is all set to return to direction with a film starring daughter Esha and good friend Rekha. "It is a film based on a cultural conflict with classical music in the background. It is a very different story about the relationship that grows between two women from different generations," Hema Malini told IANS.

Mumbai, Feb 9 : Everyone knows Shabana Azmi is playing mother Shaukat Azmis role in J.P. Duttas "Umrao Jaan". Whats not so well known is that it was old friend Rekha who suggested that she step into the formidable Shaukat Azmis shoes.Says Shabana: "Rekha had played my mothers daughter in Muzaffar Alis Umrao Jaan. It was she who insisted that I do my mothers role in J.P.s version of the same story. Thats how I decided to approach J.P. for the role."

Rekha will be dancing on the song Kabhi aar kabhi paar, originally composed by O.P.Nayyars for the 1954 film Aar Paar. The dance number is shot for Gautam Ghoses Yatra and the makers of the film are using the remixed version of the song. This will be Rekhas second dance track on a popular number in recent years, after her first performance in Parineeta.

Debutante director Amar Butala has completed a chick-flick called KUDIYON KA HAI ZAMAANA with a bevy of beauties: Rekha, Mahima Chaudhary, Kim Sharma and Vasundhara Das. "Bollywood has produced films on male-bonding, not female-bonding. I wanted to explore this area," Butala, who has produced a number of tele-serials before venturing into films, talks of his debut film.

This is a still from J.P. Duttas upcoming film Umrao Jaan. The film that stars Aishwarya Rai in lead seems to be inspired by the 1981 hit with same title. The original Umrao Jaan which had Rekha play the role of a singer/ dancer who sells her body was mainly an Urdu film.

The evergreen Rekha will soon be putting her vocal chords to good use.
