The film did good business at the box-office. In 2004, the subject was taken up by Kannada filmmakers and made into "Aaptha Mitra".

"Producers see no attraction in coming to Uttar Pradesh for making a film," bureaucrat-turned-producer K.D. Shorie told IANS on telephone from Mumbai. "The council has been indifferent towards the needs of filmmakers."Having been a member of the council when Shatrughan Sinha was its chairman until 2003, Shorie claimed: "We cleared and funded 44 films that were shot in Uttar Pradesh during that period."

Mumbai, Nov 2 : After releasing two movies on the same date, writer-director Priyadarshan is now working on his next movie "Malamaal Weekly", which he hopes to release in December.Priyadarshan, who released his "Garam Masala" and "Kyun Ki" on the same day last month, claims nobody has done it before. However, he is confident about the prospects of the films, as they are "different in genre"."Its never happened before. Ideally I would have liked the two films to come separately. But the release is in the producers hands. I feel Garam Masala and Kyun Ki are completely different in genre," he said in an interview with IANS.

Mumbai, Nov 12 : The producer of "Kyon Ki", Sunil Manchanda, has dismissed as much ado about nothing protests by the Schizophrenia Support Group, Dilassa, against the film. "I dont see anything more to it than a publicity stunt. Besides, I fail to understand why such a hue and cry is being made over the film. They should understand that films are not perfect representation of reality and should be seen in that spirit," Manchanda told Bollywood Trade. The leaders of the 1,500-strong group comprising family members of schizophrenics, addicts and the mentally ill have written to Censor board president Sharmila Tagore, protesting against the objectionable depiction of schizophrenics in "Kyon Ki". Manchanda maintained that "Kyon Ki" was a sensitively made film, which did not in any way undermine the mentally challenged. He pointed out that "Kyon Ki" wasnt the first film to be made on the mentally unstable. "As far as I know there have been several films in the past on similar subjects, the earliest one being Khilona. Besides Kyon Ki was earlier made in Malayalam and Tamil. How is it that these support groups did not wake up then" he asked.
